What is Kosher?

Kosher is a Biblical directive specifying laws permitting certain food items and ways of preparing them.

What foods are permitted?

Meat - only animals that have split hooves and chew the cud. Fish - only species that have both fins and scales. Fruit and Vegetables - all types, except one's prone to infestation


Why are all fruits & vegetables thoroughly washed & checked by a Rabbi?

Jewish Law (Bible) forbids the consumption of insects or anything that crawls on the ground thus vegetables that are prone to infestation must be checked by a Rabbi to ensure that there are no insects embedded in any of its leaves.

Why may we not serve or cook meat & dairy products?

Jewish Law states that "You shall not cook a young goat in the milk of its mother.

Why is Kosher meat salted & soaked?

Jewish Law forbids a Jewish person to eat blood therefore all meat has to be processed and porged to ensure that all blood is extracted.

Why are Kosher meals double sealed?

This ensures that when a kosher meal is heated alongside a non-kosher meal in an ordinary oven, the vapours and the odours do not penetrate into Kosher meals during the heating process.

What is the Company Hygiene Policy?

Hermolis & Co. Ltd are committed to ensuring that good hygiene standards and temperature control are maintained at all times during processing and delivery of its products.

Operating staff undergo a basic Food Hygiene training and many have received certificates. Supervisors, chefs and sous chefs are qualified at intermediate level in Food Hygiene and diploma level in Management.

Our own Hygiene Officer audits the unit and its operation on a daily basis alongside his team, which supervises each and every stage of our production. We are also approved by external auditors on behalf of some of our major clients.

We have a team of in-house cleaners and supervisors to ensure that the cleaning and maintenance requirements for both the interior and exterior of the building are maintained at all times to the highest possible level.

Our policy aims to ensure that the legal requirements under the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 and Food Safety Act 1990 are complied with. HACCP Control Systems are also in place for all our product range.

Hermolis are continually striving to improve and update its operation to the latest technology to ensure that its customers, large or small, receive high quality Kosher meals with a guarantee that the food recieved is safe and hygienic.
